Join us for a two-hour guided walk through Clapp Park led by a certified arborist. October is a great time to look at trees in Wichita, and Clapp Park has some of the oldest and most diverse specimens in the city. We'll cover around a mile and a half at an easy pace.
Along the way we'll stop to look at 12 to 15 native and adapted species, talk through how to identify them by bark, leaf shape, and form, and discuss why certain trees do better in urban settings than others. We'll also spend some time on the urban heat island effect and what Wichita's canopy loss looks like at the neighborhood level.
No experience necessary. This walk is designed for curious residents, not botanists. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. We'll wrap up with an informal Q&A before dispersing around 11:00 AM. Free to attend, no registration required.
